CROWN POINT, Ind. — An impressive start to the season, the Trojans notched their third consecutive victory to improve to 3-1 on the young campaign with a convincing 3-0 triumph over the RedHawks of Indiana Northwest on Tuesday evening.
The Trojans set the tone immediately at the start of the match, logging four shots in the first five minutes and having thrust nine shot attempts towards goal by the 21st minute of play. In the 27th minute, Johnny Mueller's bid at his first goal of the season came inches short as it clanged off the post to continue the 0-0 deadlock. The Trojans again put the pedal to the floor to close out the half, rifling four shots on goal in the final five minutes, but when the horn sounded, the game remained scoreless.
The stalemate didn't last long however, as senior striker Trenton Garside finally broke through for Trinity just 34 seconds into the second half to give the Trojans an elusive 1-0 lead. Trinity maintained the momentum and the lead before striking again, with dynamic fifth-year veteran Jorge "Pops" Vasquez finishing a feed from Garside to notch his first goal of the season while playing a season-high 69 minutes for the Trojans. Even with the game firmly in hand, the Trojans continued to press, adding a third tally as Mueller refused to be denied again in the 75th minute, tucking in a pass from captain
Zach Mawdsley to record his first goal of 2022 and round out the game's final margin, 3-0 Trinity.
The red-hot Trojans dominated in nearly every aspect of the game, possessing the ball consistently and generating numerous opportunities throughout the match, finishing with 30 shots, nearly half of which were on target. Forward TK Garside was the leader of the Trojan onslaught, being responsible for five of the shots on net in a sensational all-around effort that saw him record a goal and an assist to continue his impressive play after notching a hat trick just two games ago. In addition to the goal scorers Vasquez and Mueller, the Trojan defensive unit deserves some love as well, with players like Mawdsley, Jamin Kuepfer, Edgar Barrientos, and Jesus Ramos anchoring the Trinity resistance in support of keeper Armin Mahmutovic, who nabbed an eight-save clean sheet in the 3-0 victory.
