Trojans down Eagles in a clean sweep

ELGIN, Ill. --- Last night TIU took a short trip to Judson University for their latest Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference match-up against the Eagles. Short and sweet, the Trojans completed the three game sweep and brought themselves to second place in the conference standings.

Trinity took off to a fast start, going up 7-3 after kills from Brianna Torres, Nadia Wheeler and a few errors by the Eagles. A string of points went back and forth until the Trojans earned three in a row and increased their lead to 14-9, the rally including a service ace by libero Jaylyn Freeman. WIth the score at 16-13, Madison Williams notched her first kill of the night as the Trojans started to pull away even further with the lead. A rough night of attacking errors for the Eagles, TIU ran away with the rest of the match and sealed their victory 25-16.

Looking to turn things around, the Eagles got out to a 1-3 before the Trojans kicked it in gear again. Freeman sent a screamer to earn another service ace followed by kills from Torres and Williams to retake the lead 5-3. Judson tied it up at 6-6 before a bout of lead changes and tied scores. At 15-15, Trinity lost focus and gave up consecutive errors. Behind by four points, Torres started the turnaround with another kill immediately before the same from Lana Vujosevic. The next three points went back and forth before another slew of errors by the Eagles tied the game then gave the Trojans the lead. Torres and Wheeler brought the game to completion with the Trojans final three points.

After an early tie at 2-2, TIU rallied for five points with Freeman at the serving position once again landing another service ace with Torres notching two kills. The Eagles pushed back with a couple of kills before Trinity grabbed four more points, three of which were consecutive kills again by Torres and all assisted by Anna Skrzypchak. With the Trojans doubling the Eagles at 12-6, Vujosevic dropped another kill before joining Theresa Romero on a block assist. Trinity had a five point lead when Vujosevic stepped up to serve. Behind another run of errors by the Eagles, Vujosevic grabbed her second ace of the night to give the TRojans a 22-11 lead. Torres landed two final kills with Emma Gallegos ending the match with her 18th service ace of the season.

Brianna Torres led the charge with 18 kills in the match, her highest total in a three set match this season. Jaylyn Freeman landed three aces and led the team with 14 digs, her performance bringing her across the 2,500 career dig mark. Anna Skrzypchak totaled 26 assists on the night as she continues to add to her career total of over 2,500 assists.
