Trojans take first defeat in three weeks

GERMANTOWN, Wisc. — Yesterday afternoon the Trojans took a short trip north to battle the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch University, a fellow Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference member. A cold, blustery day seemed to foreshadow difficulty as Trinity would ultimately drop the contest, 1-5.

The first ten minutes of the game were rather uneventful barring a couple of corner kicks for the Wolves. An unfortunate foul call led to a penalty kick for Cardinal Stritch in the ninth minute which they converted to take the lead, 0-1. The lead wouldn't hold long though as the Trojans equalized ten minutes later with a goal by Maqiis Haywood, assisted by captain Zachary Mawdsley. Striking back even quicker, the Wolves found the back of the net again to break the tie in the 25th minute. Before the end of the first half, the Trojans would pick up two yellow cards while the Wolves scored another goal and earned a yellow for themselves.

Entering the second half with a two goal deficit, Trinity looked to refocus and regroup but the Wolves were unrelenting in their attack notching three shots and a corner kick in the opening five minutes before hitting the twine again and increasing the lead 1-4. At the final whistle, Stritch took the win over the Trojans 1-5.

Reigning national and conference defensive player of the week, Armin Mahmutovic held all 90 minutes in goal, adding nine saves to his resume. Haywood earned the Trojans lone goal of the contest on a single shot, his third goal of the season in his freshman campaign.
