Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Trinity falls at home to the Fighting Saints

BANNOCKBURN, Ill. — This afternoon the Trojans were back on their home court for another high-flying match up against the Fighting Saints for the second time in less than two weeks. Nearly equal at the half, the Trojans were outshot in the second despite their increased precision, falling to defeat 69-78.

For the first five minutes the Saints held a marginal lead, though the Trojans equalized at two junctures. With 12:09 remaining, sophomore Kyonte Thomas sank a three-pointer to kick off a short six point run for the Trojans. As the half carried on, the Saints kept climbing back as the Trojans would burst ahead by a margin of six on three more occasions. Fighting for a lead before the halftime break, the Saints again matched the Trojans 30-30 with roughly two minutes to go. A last second foul by Trinity gave the Saints a chance at three from the charity line which they converted to take a single point lead into halftime.

Opening the scoring again, the Saints sank a trey and began a ten point run early in the second frame. Trailing 37-52 with 13 minutes remaining,, Xavier Cooper sank back to back shots from the perimeter to catapult the Trojans into a 12 point run that would include a third trey from the 6'3" guard from Colorado. Three points from tying the Saints, the two teams scrambled for points before the Saints began to pull away again for the final time with back to back three-pointers of their own. With three and a half minutes to play, the Trojans trailed by 16 points before giving their final push that ultimately came up short.

Xavier Cooper led the Trojan attack Saturday afternoon, collecting 18 points from a season best five three-pointers, and five steals while Brandon Lawani followed close behind with 12 points. Diamond Presniakovas led the rebound game under the board with five grabs as the other eight Trojans contributed at least one more each.

The Trojans(12-9) are on the road again next Wednesday afternoon with a conference match-up against rival Trinity Christian College. Tip off is slated for 7:30pm at DeVos Gymnasium.
