Trojans knocked down by Eagles in midweek clash

ELGIN, Ill. — Last night the Trojans took a short trip south for their latest CCAC match-up against Judson University. Plagued with errors, the Trojans wrestled to find their footing on offense and fell in consecutive sets to the Eagles.

Starting off with a bang, Ethan Losinger opened the match with a service ace followed by a Matthew Perry kill to take the early 2-0 lead. A service error returned possession to the Eagles and the two squads danced back and forth with neither taking more than a two point lead over the other until the midgame. At 9-10, the Eagles took flight with a seven point run and Trinity struggled to catch up. Despite benefiting from a bout of errors by Judson, the set closed with Judson on top 15-25.

Carrying that momentum into the second set, the Eagles soared again with a 1-9 run to start the frame as Trinity scrambled for consistency in attack. For a spell of nearly 15 points, both sides were tormented by errors as they traded points. Down by seven, the Trojans gave up another lengthy run as Judson gained five points from Trojan miscues. As the set was waning, Perry stood tall at the net with a pair of blocks but the Trojans had fallen too far behind. Judson took the second set 19-25.

The final set saw the Trojans best attacking efforts as they grabbed four of their first five points with kills from Losinger and Jaylen Thompson. After a service error from the Eagles, Trinity took a short run of four points with two more aces from Losinger and a pair of Judson slip-ups to bring the score to 10-13. Unfortunately, the Eagles hit another string of points disrupted only by a service error to put the game out of reach and claim the sweep, 13-25.

From the box score, the Trojans were led by freshmen Jaylen Thompson with five kills and Ethan Losinger with three service aces and seven assists. Fellow freshman Matthew Perry put up two blocks while Paul Martinez and Losinger led the Trojans' defensive efforts with five digs each.

The Trojans (0-6) have another weekend on the road with a non-conference game against the Pilots of Bethel University. They'll travel to Mishawaka, Indiana tomorrow morning for a 1:00pm ET service as they continue their inaugural season.
