Oskroba crushes multiple single game records in offensive onslaught with Lakers

DEERFIELD, Ill. — The Trojans were back on the TIU Baseball Field yesterday afternoon as they resumed CCAC action again with a rescheduled match-up against the Lakers of Roosevelt University. Nearly four hours later, the nine inning offensive onslaught ended as the Trojans were defeated by a score of 18-26.

Trinity had a rough start from the mound, walking five in the first inning and allowing five hits as the Lakers rolled forward with an eight run lead. Jonathan Kumai put one on the board in the home half with the first of eight total home runs between the two teams.

The Lakers led off with a home run to match in the second inning then scored one more to take the score to 1-10. Defensively Roosevelt struggled in the second, giving up three walks, two hit batters and an error to give the Trojans three runs.

It was the Trojans turn to light a flame as they closed the score deficit to just one run after the third inning, scoring six runs off two hits as junior Ethan Oskroba and freshman Charlie Mctamany both sailed home runs over the fence for 3 RBI apiece. While the offense shone bright for both teams, the defensive side lagged in moments throughout and the Trojans fell behind in the top of the fourth as the Lakers rallied and put ten more runs on the board.

Refusing to back down, the Trojans extended the fifth inning considerably despite going down two outs after three batters. Four consecutive batters recorded hits to shorten the score gap with Riley Murphy starting the rally with a two run homer. Oskroba and Mctamany landed base hits, while Christian Soria-Navarro doubled to right field. At the bottom of the inning, the Trojans trailed by a score of 15-22.

TIU continued the momentum from the previous inning, again rallying on two outs. This time it was Jimmy Cisneros to start the hits with a double before Oskroba launched another three-run homer out of the park.

Roosevelt would add three more in the top of the seventh while holding Trinity to minimal batters.

Offense was the name of the game on Wednesday afternoon as the two sides combined for 44 total runs and 37 hits, including eight home runs. Trinity's 18 runs was the highest scoring game of the season.

Ethan Oskroba had a career day, going 4-5 at the plate with two home runs, four runs scored, seven RBI and ten total bases. The numbers either tied or broke multiple single game records in all four statistics categories. Christian Soria-Navarro also tied the single game record for most walks in three separate categories: a CCAC game, a game at TIU and in a loss.

Trinity International (17-23, 3-16) are back at home again tomorrow afternoon at 3:00pm with a single nine-inning game against the Cougars of Saint Xavier University, before traveling to Chicago for the doubleheader to finish the series on Saturday afternoon.
