PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. — The TIU softball program hit the road yesterday afternoon for their final game of the season, a CCAC doubleheader with the Trolls of Trinity Christian College. In both outings the Trojans struggled to garner offensive momentum and dropped both decisions to the Trolls.

Game One: TIU 2, TCC 5
Trinity Christian opened the scoring in the first inning with a pair of runs from as many hits after retiring the Trojans in order to begin the inning. Both sides stayed resolute in their defense in the second inning, holding the other to minimum batters with Trojan pitcher Haley Slaymaker striking out one.

The Trolls pitcher would go on to throw a complete game as she held the Trojans to just three batters in five of seven innings, not allowing TIU to gain any traction on offense while her team gradually added to their side of the scoreboard.

TIU scattered three hits in the final two innings to try and create momentum but would ultimately fail in their pursuit. Jenna McIntyre recorded an outfield single in the sixth, while Izabella Hernandez singled to third base and Alisyn Fullingim sent a double towards right centerfield in the seventh to collect 2 RBI before game's end.

Freshman Haley Slaymaker earned the start for the Trojans and went four innings with two strikeouts.

Game Two: TIU 0, TCC 9
Gigi Redman led off for the Trojans with a single before the Trolls defense caught her stealing, then retired two batters from the plate for a quick half inning. Trinity Christian scored two runs in the home half to take another early lead.

Looking to jumpstart the TIU offense, Alisyn Fullingim sailed a base hit to left field, followed by a double from Josie Nelson to put Trinity in scoring position in the second inning. Unfortunately, the two would be left on base as the Trolls defense tightened.

In the fourth inning the Trolls ran away with the game, putting up six runs on the scoreboard while stifling any potential scoring by the Trojans after a double from Jenna McIntyre in the fifth inning. Failing to string together consistent offense, the Trojans fell victim to the run rule.

Gigi Redman took the start for TIU, throwing for four innings with two strikeouts and no walks. Josie Nelson and Jenna McIntyre each recorded a double.

With Tuesday afternoon's game, Trinity International wrapped up their 2023 campaign with a final record of 5-31 overall and 1-19 in the CCAC.
