Leslie Frazier Field

Leslie Frazier Field

The home field of Trojan football since the program’s inception in 1988, Leslie Frazier Field is named in honor of TIU’s first-ever football coach, Leslie A. Frazier.

Frazier played collegiately at Alcorn State before being signed by the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 1981. He played defensive end for four seasons in the NFL with the Bears, and led the team with six interceptions in his final season, which culminated in Chicago’s historic 1985 run and Super Bowl XX championship over the New England Patriots.

After retiring from professional football after the Super Bowl win, Frazier began his coaching career in 1988, building the new Trinity football program from scratch. Frazier led the Trojans to a pair of conference championships in 1994 and 1995, as well as the program’s first NAIA postseason appearance in 1994. With a record of 35-33-2 in nine seasons (1988-1996), Frazier remains the winningest coach in program history.

Frazier became the defensive backs coach at the University of Illinois-Champaign in 1997 before joining the NFL coaching ranks in 1999 with the Philadelphia Eagles at the same position. He would go on to hold a number of defensive coaching positions with the Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts, Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Baltimore Ravens, and Buffalo Bills.

Frazier served as the assistant head coach and defensive backs coach for the Colts in 2006 and earn his second Super Bowl ring as Indianapolis won Super Bowl XLI over the Bears. After joining the Vikings in a similar capacity in 2007, Frazier was named the interim head coach of the Vikings during the 2010 season, and later head coach in Minnesota through the 2013 season, leading the Vikings to the NFC Playoffs in 2012, which featured the NFL MVP season of running back Adrian Petersen.

Today, Frazier serves as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator of the Buffalo Bills, a position he has held since 2017.

A natural grass field, the Trojans have complied an overall program record of 112-206-3 while calling Frazier Field home. TIU also put together postseason campaigns while playing on Frazier Field in 2001, which helped the Trojans qualify for their first-ever NCCAA Victory Bowl, and again in 2004, which saw TIU return to the to the NAIA Playoffs.
