Alumna JaToya Woods (BA '17) joined the TIU Women's Basketball staff the assistant coach for the women's basketball program in July of 2022.

Woods comes to TIU from Case High School in Racine, Wisconsin, where she served as the girls' basketball coach, an assistant track and field coach, and  taught freshman Algebra and Geometry for the last four years. Prior to coaching at Case HS, Woods spent two years on the coaching staff at TIU as a volunteer assistant coach while she completed her bachelor's degree in Sports and Wellness Management.

"I am extremely excited to have Coach Toya back on campus. She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our program. She was our missing piece to this historical season!" head coach Peay said. "Her experience being a student-athlete here and her championship mentality are going to help us continue to grow and evolve as a program!"

Besides her experience as a coach, Woods was an exceptional athlete on the Trojans Women's Basketball team. She played four years for the Trojans receiving NCCAA All-Region 1st Team during both her junior and senior seasons. She's ranked in the top ten of seven different TIU career record categories including: points, points per game, steals per game, field goal attempts, field goal percentage, free throws made, and free throw attempts.

"I am extremely excited to be returning to TIU to be coaching a sport that has helped shape me into the woman I am today," said Woods. "I am even more excited that I am able to coach at my alma mater and help pour into the lives of these young women, to be able to help them become the women of God they are destined to be, and to help them compete in both the classroom and on the court to be the best student-athletes they can be."

Woods is the proud mother of her seven year old son, Jordan Thomas, who loves TIU as much as his mom.
