Coach Helms is in his first season as assistant coach for the Trojans after joining the program summer of 2022. Helms comes to TIU from Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas where is was the head assistant coach for the Warriors.

Coach Helms began his playing career at Ohlone College in Fremont, California, where he contributed to multiple Coast Pacific Conference, CCCAA Regional, and CCCAA Super-Regional Championships, as well as one California State Championship. In 2012, he transferred to York College where he was selected as First Team All-MCAC  on two occasions and received two All-MCAC Golden Glove Awards as a catcher. Helms also contributed to York’s 2013 NAIA World Series appearance. 

Coach Helms holds a bachelor’s degree in English from York College, and a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction.
