PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. -- Ending a losing streak that had fallen into the double-digits, the Trinity International Trojans scored a victory over the Calumet St. Joseph Crimson Wave in four sets, to cap off the second of two CCAC Crossover tournaments Saturday afternoon.

Trinity opened with a match against Olivet Nazarene, where although the Tigers secured the straight set win, the Trojans pushed ONU to 26 and 29 points in the second and third games, respectively. In the second game, TIU held game point before a three-point rally closed the game out for the Tigers. Looking to keep the match alive,
Becca Kowalczuk dealed out a service ace to give the Trojans a 24-23 edge. Olivet would take the next point and eventually the set, but not before TIU claimed leads off Tiger errors at 25-24 and 26-25.
Freshman
Lexie Voss led the team with 10 kills, hitting .208 in the match.
Gabrielle LaMonaca recorded 18 digs to lead the Trojan defense, and pitched in on the offensive side with five aces.
Trinity played another tight match to close out play on Friday night, falling to Purdue-Calumet, 25-20, 27-25, 25-22. In the second game,
Opening action on Saturday morning, TIU suffered a three-set loss to CCAC leaders and crossover hosts Trinity Christian, 25-15, 25-17, 25-17.
Samantha Stoller recorded eight kills to lead the Trojans, while three Trojans picked up six digs apiece.
In the crossover finale, Voss again led the Trojans in kills, with 16, and hit for .400 as TIU took a four-set win over the Crimson Wave, 23-25, 25-11, 25-22, 25-13.
TIU held off game point for CCSJ on four straight points, before the Crimson Wave finally took the opener, 25-23 on a kill. The Trojans came out big in set number two, using a six-point rally to go up 6-1, and eventually claiming a 13-4 lead over Calumet. Tying the match at one set apiece, the Trojans closed the set on an 8-1 run.
A six point run in the third set turned an 11-10 CCSJ advantage into a 16-11 Trojan lead, with four straight Crimson Wave attack errors, including a solo block from Stoller. TIU would hold onto the lead throughout the rest of the set, and took a 2-1 match lead after back-to-back kills from Voss and Stoller gave the Trojans the win.
Just one more set away from the win, the Trojans put together an 18-4 rally to comfortably take a 25-13 win in the fourth set. Voss and Stoller reached double figures in the win, with 16 and 11 kills, respectively. LaMonaca anchored the back line with 21 digs, while Kowalczuk picked up 12 digs, and
Julie Gregornik had 10.
The Trojans return home for their final three regular season matches of the year, beginning on Tuesday, October 28, when TIU hosts Roosevelt, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
