DEERFIELD, Ill. -- In their return to Schartner Field after a week on the road, the Trinity International offense struggled Wednesday afternoon, falling at home to the St. Xavier Cougars, 3-0. The loss is the third shutout for the TIU attack in their last four matches, after scoring at least one goal in each of their first eight matches of the season.

Nolan Walsh had a shot to give Trinity an early lead, but the shot was saved by the SXU goalkeeper. Walsh's attempt in the 23rd minute was the lone shot on goal for the Trojans on the day.
St. Xavier moved in front in the 26th minute, when SXU's Roger Ciszewski scored the first goal of the match. The Cougars held a 1-0 edge throughout much of the rest of the match, and went into the halftime break with the one-goal lead. Despite allowing 13 corner kicks to the Cougars, the TIU defense held strong on set pieces, not allowing a score off any of the corners.
The Cougars broke through again in the 70th minute, taking a 2-0 lead with a goal from Lorenzo Savino. As the Trojans pressed to get back into match, St. Xavier closed the door with their third goal of the game, in the 89th minute.
The Trojans will look to bounce back on Saturday, when they host Calumet St. Joseph in the 2014 Homecoming match. Kickoff against the Crimson Wave is set for 3:00 p.m., and two historic Trojan soccer squads will be recognized at halftime. Members of the 1974 NCCAA National Champion men's soccer team, as well as the 2004 NCCAA Women's Soccer National Championship team will be recognized as part of the Homecoming festivities.
