DEERFIELD, Ill. -- Junior forward
Morgan Elzinga provided the only offense of the day for Trinity International, but it proved to be enough as the Trojans advanced in the 2014 CCAC Women's Soccer Tournament with a 1-0 win over Cardinal Stritch on Saturday afternoon.
Box Score | Season StatsThe Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc. native scored in the 39th minute, taking the pass from
Samantha Yasatan, who was credited with the assist, giving the Trojans the one-goal lead with her 13th goal of the season. TIU dominated possession throughout the first half, outshooting the Wolves 11-1 before the break.
Cardinal Stritch looked for the equalizer in the second half, firing seven shots, with five on target. Senior goalkeeper
Elizabeth Burzynski stopped them all, however, and ended the day with six saves and her fifth shutout of the season.
Morgan also picked up her seventh game-winning goal of the year, and moves into a tie for 4th on the NAIA leaderboard in game-winners.
The Trojans now advance to Wednesday's CCAC Tournament semifinal, where they will host No. 6 seed St. Francis, who upset No. 3 seed Trinity Christian in their quarterfinal matchup. Start time for the match will be announced later this week, as the Trojans look to move into the CCAC Tournament championship game for the second straight season.
