Quick Notes
• Starting a five-game road swing, the Trinity International Trojans finish out the rest of 2014 away from Van Dixhorn Arena, beginning with a visit to the Trinity Christian Trolls on Saturday, December 6. Tipoff from Palos Heights, Ill. is set for 3:00 p.m.
• Saturday's game will be available via live webcast, through the "Live Game Video" feature at athletics.trnty.edu.
• Trinity will look to snap an eight-game slide, after winning the season opener, 81-67, over Clarke (Iowa) on Oct. 31.
• The Trojans return to action after a pair of home losses to nationally-ranked opponents. On Nov. 25, TIU had a close 73-68 overtime loss to No. 2 Cardinal Stritch, then fell on Wednesday night to No. 19 St. Xavier, 107-86.
• Senior center Nate Ball recorded the team's first double-double of the season, with 19 points and 12 rebounds against Stritch.
• Senior Paul Badgley had a career night last week against the Cougars; the Rushville, Ind. native scored a career-high 13 points off the bench, while also setting career highs in field goals, field goal percentage, rebounds, assists, and minutes.
• Trinity International ranks 8th in the CCAC in scoring, averaging 72.0 points per game; Trinity Christian comes in 6th among league members, with 72.9 points per game. Defensively, the Trolls have allowed 76.6 points to their opponents, ranking 10th in the CCAC. TIU has given up 83.8 points per game on the defensive end, most in the conference.
• Senior center Nate Ball was named CCAC Player of the Week on Nov. 5, after leading the Trojans with 16.0 points and 8.5 rebounds over two games at the Judson Classic.
• Trinity returns 77.2% of its scoring output from last season, as the top four scorers from a year ago return for the 2014-15 season. TIU also brings back 63.2% of it's rebounding production from last year.
Series History with Trinity Christian
• Since 2003-04, Trinity Christian has held a 16-9 record over Trinity International, including victories over TIU in two of their last three meetings.
• The Trojans last swept the season series over the Trolls in 2011-12, which snapped a ten-game slide against TCC, the longest streak from either side in the series.
• The Trojans and Trolls have seen overtime twice since 2011, with each side taking a win during the extra session.
Last Time Out vs. Trinity Christian
• Four players finished in double figures, led by junior Nate Ball's 23 points, but the Trojans ultimately fell to the Trolls, 96-81. The Trojans trailed by just a single point at the half, and briefly held a one-point lead after the halftime break, but were outscored 49-35 in the second half.
• The Trojans never fell out of the game completely, keeping the deficit within single digits throughout much of the second half. TIU trailed by just six points with 2:12 to play following Andy Stauffer's layup, but the Trolls responded with a score on the other end on the following possession. Trinity Christian went 5-for-6 from the free throw line over the last minute of regulation, keeping the Trojans at bay, while pulling down key rebounds on the defensive end to limit TIU's ability to chip away at the lead.
• Ball posted his CCAC-leading 12th double-double, shooting 7-for-10 from the field, and 9-for-11 from the free throw line.
• Sophomore Josh Markum matched his career high with 12 points off the bench for the Trojans. All 12 points came off four three-pointers, as the Mission Viejo, Calif. native scored his highest point total since Holy Cross on Feb. 18, 2013.
• The Trojans picked up their first conference win of the season, in a 104-98 thriller over the Trinity Christian Trolls, on Dec. 7 of last season. Both teams hit dramatic, game-tying three-pointers in the waning seconds to force the pair of extra sessions before TIU closed out the win.
• Ball set a new career high with 24 points in the win, and matched his career-best 17 rebounds on the night. Sam Salem also matched his career high with 19 points in the win. Also setting a new career-best was the freshman Thomas Amrine, with 21.
League Leaders
• Nate Ball cracks the national top 40 in four different categories. The Galena, Ill. native is 7th in the NAIA in blocks per game (2.3), 12th in total blocks (21), 29th in offensive rebounds per game (3.11), and 41st in total rebounding (7.89).
• Trinity ranks fourth in the CCAC with 7.7 steals per game, and fourth in blocks, with 3.4 per game. Nationally, the Trojans are 36th in blocks per game.
• The Trojans hold one of the best turnover margins in the CCAC this season, averaging 2.22 fewer turnovers than their opponents, good for 2nd in the conference, and 36th in the NAIA.
• Senior Nate Ball is among the CCAC's best in multiple categories; Ball second in the CCAC in blocked shots (2.3),ranks 6th in rebounding (7.9 per game), 4th in offensive boards (3.1), and 8th in field goal percentage (.576).
• Senior Justin Peeples leads the Trojans with 12.0 points per game; Peeples currently sits tied for 22nd on the CCAC's scoring list, and is 9th among conference seniors.
• Sophomore guard Thomas Amrine is the Trojans' top three-point shooter, with 2.4 made threes each game, which ranks 8th in the conference.
1,000 Point Club
• With his game-high 19 points Cardinal Stritch, Nate Ball recorded his 1,000th career point during his TIU career. The senior enters play this weekend with 1,011 career points.
• Ball becomes the second active Trojan to join the 1,000-point club, joining fellow senior Dillon Wadsack, who has tallied 1,057 points as a Trojan.
• Dan Dondit (1979-83) holds TIU's all-time scoring record, having tallied 2,499 points during his Trojan career.
Trojans in the Polls
• Trinity International has appeared in the NAIA Division II Coaches Poll 21 times in program history, but not since the 1997-98 campaign.
• TIU's last ranking came on Jan. 6, 1998, when the Trojans came in at No. 20.
• The highest ranking in program history was during the 1995-96 season, when Trinity was at No. 3 in the Jan. 22, 1996 poll.
Van Dixhorn Arena Dedication
• Friends, family, and alumni of Trinity International University are welcome to attend the dedication of the new Henry Van Dixhorn Arena, during the TIU Men's and Women's Basketball doubleheader on Saturday, Feburary 7.
• The newly refurbished arena, made possible by the generous gifts from several friends across the Trinity family, including board member Henry Van Dixhorn and his family, was officially opened Friday, October 24th in the Meyer Sports Complex.
• The arena is the largest gathering space Trinity's campus has ever held, with a capacity of over 1,700 in the stands that now surround the brand new court on all sides.
