CRESTWOOD, Ill. -- Freshman pitcher Jeremiah Carter posted his strongest outing of his young career on Saturday afternoon, giving up just two hits in a 9-1 complete game victory over the Roosevelt Lakers. The first-year Trojan had a no-hitter going until the sixth inning, when the Lakers broke up the no-hit bid with two outs in the frame. Trinity finished with a split on the day, as Roosevelt took the second game of the twinbill, 8-0. The win is the ninth of the year for Trinity International, surpassing their win total from a year ago, with nine games still on the schedule.

The Trojan offense gave Carter plenty of run support, scoring nine runs on 14 hits, including a five-run outburst in the seventh to put the game away. Junior outfielder Cameron Stanley went 3-for-4 in the first game, picking up a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Tony Guidone fueled the Trojan attack with a pair of 2-RBI doubles, in the fourth and seventh innings.

Trinity International (9-22, 5-13 CCAC) took an early lead in the third inning, when Stanley and A.J. Bruner combined for back-to-back, two-out RBI doubles. Guidone then doubled the Trojan lead with the first of his two doubles in the fourth inning, driving home Scott Krawiec and Andrew Grotelueschen.

While allowing just a pair of singles, Carter did work through much of the game with runners on base, as the Irvine, Calif. native issued six walks throughout the game. Carter was able to make outs in the key moments of the game however, as Roosevelt left four runners in scoring position.

With a four-run lead in the seventh, TIU added to their advantage with five runs, highlighted by a 2-RBI single from Grotelueschen, as well as an RBI single from Jon Debowey.

In the second game of the day, TIU was unable to find the timely hit, leaving nine runners on base throughout the game despite collecting seven hits and three Roosevelt errors. TIU had a chance to take an early first-inning lead, as two hitters reached base in the top of the frame, but each were picked off second base, committing the second and third outs on the basepaths. In the second, Adam Vignola cranked a leadoff double, followed by a base hit from Grotelueschen, but a pair of pop-ups and a strikeout ended the threat.

The Lakers (9-25, 4-16 CCAC) on the other hand, struck early in game two, taking advantage of a two-out fielding error from the Trojans to record three runs in the first inning.

After tacking on another run in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead, the Lakers broke out again for a four-run rally in the fifth, pulling away as the Trojans suffered their fourth shutout of the season.

WIth nine games remaining in the season, the Trojans remain in the hunt for a spot in the upcoming CCAC Tournament. TIU will return home next week as they continue to fight for a playoff spot, and take on the Robert Morris Eagles on Monday, April 21. First pitch for the doubleheader with the Eagles is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.
