MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. -- The Trinity International Trojans finished the first weekend of the 2014 season with a pair of victories, as the team comes out of the Milligan (Tenn.) Mountain Madness tournament with a 2-2 record. The Trojans picked up a win on both Friday and Saturday, defeating Tennessee Wesleyan in the tournament opener, then knocking off Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) in their final match of the trip.

The team's two victories in the first weekend gives TIU their best start to a season since 2011. The Trojans held records of 1-11 last season, and 1-12 in 2012, before earning their second win of the year.

Trinity opened the season with a five-set thriller against Tennessee Wesleyan on Friday afternoon. The Trojans dropped the opening set by a narrow 25-22 margin, before rebounding to take game two, 25-16. After the Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead in the match with a win in the third game, TIU rallied to win the final two games, 25-17 and 15-13, to earn the victory.

Facing hosts Milligan (Tenn.) in the nightcap on Friday, the Trojans fell in the first two games before claiming the third, 25-16, to stay alive in the match. Milligan went on to take the fourth game, however, and claimed the four-set win.

On Saturday morning, TIU took an opening set victory over Cumberlands (Ky.), 25-16, but dropped the next three games to fall to the Patriots, and 1-2 on the year.

The Trojans bounced back to finish out the weekend with their most dominant performance, sweeping Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) in straight sets, 32-30, 25-23, 25-18. Senior Samantha Stoller was named to the All-Tournament team, one of just six players in the tourney to earn the weekend's top honor.

The Trojans will be back on the road again next weekend, when they travel to Richmond, Ind., to compete in the Earlham College Tournament. TIU opens the tourney by taking on hosts Earlham (Ind.) on Saturday, September 6, at 1:00 p.m.
