TIU Volleyball picks up three wins at Earlham Tourney

Box Score 4 RICHMOND, Ind. -- The Trinity International volleyball program is off to their best start in four years, as the Trojans posted a 3-1 weekend against NCAA Division III competition at the Earlham (Ind.) Quaker Classic. The Trojans picked up wins over the host Quakers, Wilmington (Ohio) and Kenyon (Ohio), before falling in a tough five-set match to Franklin (Ind.)
In the opening match of the weekend, the Trojans (5-3) dropped a close first set 25-23, before rallying to win three straight over Earlham, 25-19, 25-15, and 25-17. Redshirt freshman
Marissa Boelter led the Trojans with 12 kills, while freshman
Lexie Voss posted a .474 hitting percentage with 11 kills. Boelter, along with
Gabrielle LaMonaca, picked up a match-high 21 digs.
Trinity put in a dominant performance in the second match of the tourney, knocking out Wilmington, 25-8, 25-12, 25-16. Stoller led the way with 11 kills, while Boelter picked up double-digit digs for the second straight match, with ten.
On the second day of competition, TIU kept the momentum rolling, with another straight set win, this time over Kenyon. Freshman hitter
Mickayla Staal collected 11 kills to lead all scorers as the Trojans took a 25-14, 25-17, 25-22 decision. Four Trojans finished with double-digit digs, led by LaMonaca's 20.
Just one set away from pulling off a perfect weekend, the Trojans dropped three straight sets to Franklin, after taking the first two, 25-21 and 25-19. The Grizzlies battled back to force a fifth set with identical 25-18 wins in sets three and four, before taking the fifth and final game, 15-9. Stoller recorded 17 kills, as four Trojans finished in double figures. Boelter collected her second double-double of the trip, with 12 kills and 23 digs. LaMonaca recorded a career-high 39 digs in the match.
Trinity International will now kick off CCAC play, when they pay a visit to Robert Morris on Tuesday, September 9. The conference opener is set for a 7:00 p.m. start inside the RMU Athletic & Convocation Center in Arlington Heights, Ill.
