BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. - Trinity International matched their highest offensive output of the season Tuesday afternoon, striking early and often to take a 5-1 road win over the Roosevelt Lakers at Toyota Park. Senior winger
Morgan Elzinga put in three of the five goals, recording her second career hat trick in the win.
Box Score | Season StatsThe Trojans (6-4-2, 4-2-1 CCAC) went up early, as Elzinga found herself in a one-on-one situation after receiving the pass from freshman
Jillian Kolster in the 10th minute and put away the first goal of the match. A few minutes later,
Nicole Post found her second goal of the year, as Trinity claimed a 2-0 lead in the 24th minute.
Before the Lakers (5-8, 2-6 CCAC) found their first shot on goal, Trinity had built a three-goal advantage, as Elzinga took
Kelsey Dejno's pass through the middle and slotted it past the keeper for her second score of the day. TIU would take that 3-0 lead into the break as the team's largest halftime lead so far this season.
TIU didn't let up after the half, as freshman
Jillian Kolster, who assisted on two previous goals, scored one herself in the 52nd minute. Kolster's attempt was saved by the Roosevelt keeper, but the ball popped loose and she finished the play off the rebound for a 4-0 lead. Just seconds later, Elzinga fired a shot off the crossbar and in for her third goal of the match.
Roosevelt avoided the shutout with a goal in the 60th minute, when Jamie Beniac scored off the one-on-one opportunity. The Lakers would get four more shots off before the end of regulation, but just one was on target and saved by
McKenzie Chappell.
Chappell made two saves through 78 minutes of play, before
Surina Lewandowski came on to close out the match.
The Trojans return to Schartner Field this Saturday, October 17, when they host the St. Ambrose Bees at noon.
