DEERFIELD, Ill. - Trinity International suffered a straight-set loss to the visiting Robert Morris Eagles on Thursday night, 25-16, 25-14, 25-14 inside Van Dixhorn Arena, as the Trojans struggled to get into an offensive rhythm throughout the night.
Box Score | Season StatsThe Trojans (2-13, 1-9 CCAC) finished with 19 kills on the night, compared to 23 attacking errors to finish with a -.037 hitting percentage.
Gabby Miller led Trinity with seven kills and a .278 average, while
Becca Kowalczuk anchored the back line with 14 digs.
Big rallies in the first and third sets helped the Eagles (9-18, 5-7 CCAC) secure two of the three games. In the first, with Trinity holding a 3-2 lead after a kill from Miller, Robert Morris scored eight straight to take a 10-3 advantage. The Trojans would score four in a row to cut the lead to 14-10, but that would be as close as they would get the rest of the way. In game three, the Trojans picked up the first point of the set, but RMU would go on a 12-2 run to pull away.
The second game was the closest of the day, with back-to-back kills from Miller and
Mickayla Staal cutting the Trojan deficit in half at 7-5. Robert Morris would score eight of the next ten points to double up TIU at 14-7. Keeping Trinity from putting together a rally, the Eagles held their lead and closed out the set with five straight points.
The Trojans will return to Van Dixhorn Arena next Tuesday, October 20, when they host the Cardinal Stritch Wolves. Tipoff against the defending CCAC Tournament and North Division champs is set for 7:00 p.m.
