DEERFIELD, Ill. - After a shaky start that saw two goal from the visitors in the first 16 minutes, the Trinity International Trojans made it a memorable Homecoming weekend, earning a 6-2 win over the St. Francis Saints on Saturday afternoon.
Box ScoreThe Trojans trailed after about 90 seconds, when the Saints struck for an early 1-0 lead. Once
Joseph Sanborn tied the match in the 15th minute, St. Francis struck again within a minute to move back in front, 2-1.
From that point on, however, it was all TIU as five unanswered goals secured the team's seventh win this season, and second in league play. Freshman
Tyler Cake found the equalizer in the 29th minute, directly off a TIU corner kick, to make it a 2-2 score.
Erik Yamane put the Trojans ahead for the first time in the 37th minute, finding his third goal of the season before the halftime break.
In the second half, a three-goal outburst from the TIU attack put the game away.
Zack Cemail scored his fifth of the year on a free kick directly in front of the goal, and just outside of the penalty box to put Trinity ahead 4-2 in the 53rd minute. A little over 60 seconds later,
Zach Reget tied Cemail for the team lead, putting away his fifth goal of the season on a penalty kick.
Finally, Sanborn found the back of the net again in the 58th minute for the team's third strike in a five-minute span. Reget picked up the assist on both of Sanborn's goals, giving the junior six assists on the year.
Outside of a few brief lapses, the Trojans seemed to control possession, outshooting the Saints 18-6, including a 6-1 margin in the second half.
Goalkeeper
Jared Yonke played all 90 minutes in goal for the Trojans, making one save and securing his seventh win this season.
The Trojans are back in action next Tuesday, when they host the Judson Eagles. Kickoff from Schartner Field is set for October 6, at 4:00 p.m.
