DEERFIELD, Ill. - In the final regular season match of the season, Trinity International upset the top team in the CCAC, earning a 2-0 win over #11 Olivet Nazarene on a soggy Saturday afternoon at Schartner Field.
Box Score | Season StatsTrinity held possession for a majority of the match, outshooting the Tigers (13-4-1, 10-2 CCAC) 17-7 on the day. Both sides held one another scoreless over the first 45 minutes, with the Trojans (10-4-3, 8-2-2 CCAC) firing four shots on goal, all stopped by the ONU keeper.
In the 61st minute, TIU broke through, when
Samantha Yasatan fired a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar.
Marta Sobey collected the rebound and put it away for her first goal of the season, to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.
Twelve minutes later, Yasatan received a clearance from the Trojan defense, and charged nearly 70 yards with the ball, around multiple defenders and striking the ball past the keeper for a two-goal lead. Trinity's defense would close out the match without allowing another shot over the closing minutes, securing TIU's fourth straight win.
With the victory, Trinity International clinches the No. 4 seed in next week's CCAC Tournament, meaning the first round match against No. 5 St. Francis will take place at Schartner Field. The tournament is set to begin on Friday, November 6, with the start time still to be determined.
