DEERFIELD, Ill. - Junior forward
Henry French became the first player to reach the 20-point mark in a game this season, while six Trojans scored in double-figures overall, as Trinity International took a 109-72 victory over Emmaus Bible (Iowa), Tuesday night inside Van Dixhorn Arena.
Box Score | Season StatsFrench picked up 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting on the night, while
Grant Corsi and
Zach Kirschbaum picked up 18 points apiece. Kirschbaum also recorded the team's first double-double of the year, with 10 rebounds.
Senior
James Glass finished with 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while
Greg Carlyle and
Sean Smith came off the bench with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
The game was fairly close in the opening minutes, with the Eagles (2-2) holding a lead six minutes into the contest. Emmaus knocked down a pair of threes in the first four minutes, jumping out to a 12-6 advantage.
French's steal and fast-break dunk tied the game at 12-12 at the 14:37 mark, and after a quick response from Emmaus' Cody Nicely, the Trojans would go on a 10-0 run to lead the rest of the night.
Trinity took a double-digit lead when Corsi followed his miss and tipped in the rebound with 7:49 to play in the first half. The Trojans would go up by as much as 26 points before the break, when Corsi swiped the ball and went the other way for a layup with 21 seconds left in the half.
"Tonight we showed how good we can be offensively when the ball moves," said TIU head coach
Boomer Roberts after the win. "We shot 63 percent because our point guards had 13 assists to three turnovers, and our bigs and wings finished with confidence. Defensively, we forced 30 turnovers, but Emmaus shot the ball very well and played hard. Overall, I'm pleased with the way everyone who played contributed to the win."
The Trojans will hit the road this weekend, for a pair of games in the Trinity Christian Troll Classic, beginning Friday, November 13. TIU will tip off against Olivet (Mich.) at 6 p.m. on Friday, then face Lincoln Christian (Ill.) on Saturday, November 14, at noon.
