LAKELAND, Fla. -- Scoring five late runs to force extra innings, Trinity International came up just short in searching for their first win of the season, going 11 innings until a walk-off single for St. Ambrose (Iowa) closed the door en route to a doubleheader sweep over the Trojans, 6-5 in game one, and 6-3 in game two.

The Bees scored five unanswered in the opener, before the Trojans rallied, scoring all five runs in the top of the 5th. An SAU error and a bunt single from Colt Foerch set the table, as Evan Athanasiou's single up the middle put TIU on the board. St. Ambrose then walked the next three batters, forcing in two runs, before Edward Piotrowski's infield single drove in A.J. Bruner, making it a 5-4 ballgame. Jon Debowey then hit a sac fly to left, allowing Adam Gomski to tie the game.

Trinity had the go-ahead run in scoring position four times, but stranded them in the 7th, 9th, 10th, and 11th innings. A leadoff triple for St. Ambrose in the bottom of the 11th led to the winning run, as SAU's Matt Rosenberger singled in the next at-bat to finish out the marathon game.

Foerch and Gomski finished with three hits apiece in the game, as five different Trojans picked up RBIs. Daniel Wawrzyniak pitched eight innings in his season debut, striking out seven and giving up the five early runs.

In game two, St. Ambrose again went ahead early, scoring two runs in the 2nd, and three more in the 3rd to take a 5-0 edge. Trinity scored one run in the 4th, 5th, and 6th to cut into the lead, but never had the big inning to move in front.

Gomski hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot to left in the 4th to put TIU on the board. A pair of singles in the 5th gave Cameron Stanley the opportunity for his first RBI of the year, as the senior's base hit up the middle drove home Justin VanderNaald, but the Trojans stranded two more runners, leaving the score at 5-2. In the 6th, Debowey smacked his second home run of the year, another solo shot to left, but with the Bees pushing across a run in the top half of the inning, the Trojans still trailed, 6-3.

Debowey finished 2-for-3 in the second game, with a run and an RBI to lead the offense. Drake Maltry got his first career start on the mound for TIU, throwing six inning and allowing four earned runs while striking out three.
