CLERMONT, Fla. -- Valerie D'Ambrosio and
Jamie Stanton picked up base hits in both games, as Trinity International fell in day three of their Florida spring break trip, 13-3 to Spring Arbor (Mich.), and 5-1 to Marian (Ind.)
Box Scores: Game 1 | Game 2 | Season StatsIn the opener, Spring Arbor jumped out to a big lead, scoring four runs in the 1st and six more in the 2nd, to claim an early 10-0 advantage. The Cougars tacked on three more in the 4th before the Trojans responded with three of their own in the bottom of the 5th.
After the first two Trojans reached base, a Cougar fielding error allowed
Alyssa Doomis aboard, and gave TIU their first run of the day when
Ashley O'Brien scored from second. Stanton then hit a one-out double, driving home Doomis and Tori Livingston to make it a 13-3 game. The Trojans came up just short of extending the game, however, as Spring Arbor got out of the rally with their 10-run advantage intact, wrapping up the game in five innings.
O'Brien, D'Ambrosio, and Stanton had TIU's three hits in the game, while pitcher
Breanna Hansen threw three and a third innings in relief, without giving up an earned run.
In game two, Marian put up an early run, scoring once in the top of the 1st for the narrow 1-0 advantage. Trinity tied the game in the top of the 4th, after
Alyssa Doomis' leadoff single set up Livingston, whose RBI single through the right side of the infield tied the game.
Back-to-back doubles in the bottom half of the inning drove in three Marian runs, however, and the Knights reclaimed the lead, 4-1. The Trojans had multiple chances to get back in the game, leaving the bases loaded in the 5th, 6th, and 7th innings.
TIU had a season-high seven hits against the Knights, led by Livingston, who went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and an RBI. Six different Trojans collected a base hit in the second game of the day, including
Alyssa Doomis, who has reached base in each of the team's four games so far this season.
