WHEELING, Ill. -- Freshman
Emily Doomis hit a combined 3-for-5, as the lone Trojan to record a hit in both games of the doubleheader, but Trinity International's offense was otherwise slowed, falling to the Purdue-North Central Panthers, 3-1 in game one, and 16-0 in the nightcap, Thursday afternoon at Heritage Park.
Box Scores: Game 1 | Game 2Breanna Hansen put in a strong performance in the circle, pitching all seven innings of the first game, allowing just three runs. PNC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, thanks in part to a leadoff triple, and a two-out RBI double. The Panthers tacked on another run in the third, with back-to-back doubles, moving ahead 3-0.
The Trojans got on the board with a rally in the 6th, after
Ashley O'Brien's one-out triple after 12 straight Trojans had been retired.
Victoria Livingston then singled to left-center, allowing the senior to score. Another single from
Jamie Stanton in the next at-bat put the tying run on first for Trinity, but the Trojans were unable to cash in.
Season Stats | CCAC StandingsIn game two, PNC jupmed out to an early lead with a five-run first inning, then added three more in the second to take an 8-0 lead. The Panthers scored at least one run in each frame to build a 16-run advantage and end the game by run-rule.
The Trojans will be back in action on Tuesday, March 24, in what hopes to be the first game at the TIU Softball field this season. TIU will host the Cardinal Stritch Wolves in a CCAC doubleheader scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
