PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. -- Freshman
Emily Doomis went 3-for-3 with three RBI in the first of two games Thursday afternoon, but the Trinity Christian offense was too much to handle, scoring 28 runs over two games as Trinity International fell to the Trolls 15-7 in game one, and 13-4 in game two.
Box Scores: Game 1 | Game 2The Trojans briefly held a lead in the first game, with six runs in the 2nd inning. Four of the first five Trojans to step up to the plate drew a walk, with
Victoria Livingston crossing the plate for the first TIU run of the day.
Dania Pristach then followed up with a double to center field, driving home
Breanna Hansen and
Jamie Stanton to make it a one-run game. Trinity International took the lead on the next at-bat, when
Emily Doomis hit her first career home run, a three-run shot that gave TIU a 6-4 lead.
Season Stats | CCAC StandingsTrinity Christian answered in the bottom half of the inning, however, with eight runs on eight hits to move back in front, 12-6. The Trojans added another run in the 5th, when
Alyssa Doomis singled to bring her sister Emily home, but the Trolls would close out the game early with three runs in the bottom of the 5th for a 15-7 final.
In game two, the Trojans would hit two more long balls, but Trinity Christian started the game with six runs in the 1st inning, and six more in the 3rd to take a commanding lead. Trailing 13-0 in the 5th, the Trojans started to rally with
Danielle Donorovich's first home run of the season. After Hansen's RBI single brought home another run, Livingston hit the second homer of the inning, the first of her career, for two more runs to make it a 13-4 score. The Trojans finished just short of avoiding the run-rule, however, as the Trolls earned the sweep in five innings.
Trinity International return home next week, for a pair of doubleheaders at Heritage Park in Wheeling, Ill. on Monday and Tuesday. Both dates are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. starts, as TIU faces off against Cardinal Stritch on Monday, March 30, and Olivet Nazarene on Tuesday, March 31.
