DUBUQUE, Iowa -- In the final road trip of the season, Trinity International pushed 16 runs across the plate in 14 innings of action, but weren't able to come away with a victory, falling to the Clarke (Iowa) Crusaders 10-5 in game one, and 13-11 in game two.

Adam Vignola had the Trojan's best day at the plate, going a combined 5-for-6 over both games, with three RBI and three runs scored. Vignola started the day on the right foot, giving TIU a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st in game one, hitting a three-run home run to left field for the early advantage.
Trinity added another run in the top of the 2nd, without recording a single hit in the inning.
Jeff Lindberg drew a two-out walk, followed by
Ryan Helmeid reaching base by getting hit by the pitch. Two more walks from
Cameron Stanley and
Adam Gomski brought Lindberg home for a 4-1 lead.
Clarke scored a single run in the 1st and 2nd innings, then tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the 3rd with a two-run homer. Another run in the 4th inning on a single up the middle put the Crusaders in front for the first time.
Another two-run shot in the bottom of the 5th for Clarke made it a three-run game. Gomski's RBI single in the 6th closed the gap, but the Crusaders added three more runs on two hits and two errors in the bottom half of the inning to secure a five-run lead.
The Trojans took an even larger lead in game two, after RBIs from
A.J. Bruner and
Andrew Grotelueschen in the top of the 1st. Stanley then added to the TIU lead with a three-run home run of his own, giving the Trojans a 5-0 lead midway through the 2nd inning.
The fourth home run of the day by either side came in the bottom of the 2nd, as Clarke closed in on the Trojans with a two-run shot. The Trojans responded with two runs in the top of the 3rd, when Vignola scored on a Crusader error, and Jon Grotelueschen drove in Helmeid with a two-out double, giving TIU a 7-2 lead.
Trinity would take their largest lead of the day in the top of the 4th, despite Clarke scoring three times in their previous trip to the plate. Bruner's sac fly brought home Lindberg, before
Andrew Grotelueschen and Helmeid both singled for three RBI between them. The Trojans would hold an 11-5 lead after the four-run inning.
Clarke would make their run in the bottom of the 6th, scoring five runs to eventually go in front 13-11. The Crusaders would use three hits, three walks and a hit batter to fuel the comeback.
The Trojans get back into CCAC action next week, when they host Holy Cross in the final matchup of the season. The doubleheader against the Saints is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
