Trojans fall in straight sets to Eagles

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - Sophomore Marissa Boelter came close to a double-double in the first match of the season, but Trinity International came up short on Thursday night, falling to the host Robert Morris Illinois Eagles, 25-15, 25-18, 25-19.

Box Score

Lexie Voss finished with a match-high nine kills on the night, as five Trojans recorded three or more kills in the match. Robert Morris (3-7, 1-1 CCAC) took a quick 4-0 lead in the opening set before Voss got Trinity (0-1, 0-1 CCAC) on the board with her first kill of the match. Coming out of a timeout trailing 11-5, the Trojans rallied in the middle portion of the game, using an 8-2 run to tie the score at 13-13. The Eagles responded with a 12-2 run of their own to close out the game.

Robert Morris led wire-to-wire in the second game, despite TIU keeping the score close in the early stages of the game and pulling to within a single point at 11-10 following a kill from Boelter. The Trojans found themselves trailing by one at 16-17, 17-18, and 18-19, but weren't able to find the game-tying play before RMU ralied for the final six points of the game to take a two-set advantage.

The most competitive set came in the third, with the lead bouncing back and forth four times throughout the set. Trinity took their first lead of the night with kills from Voss and Boelter, along with an RMU attack error, giving the Trojans a 3-1 edge. TIU stayed in front until a 7-0 run from Robert Morris gave the Eagles a 16-15 advantage. Gabby Miller's kill at 18-17 inched the Trojans ahead again, but with another long run to close out a set, the Eagles scored the final eight points to take the straight-set win.

Junior Suzanne Knudtson finished with a team-high 19 sets as TIU's primary setter. Alida Knudtson finished with three blocks to lead the Trojans.

Trinity are back in action on Tuesday night, when they travel north to take on the Cardinal Stritch Wolves. Tipoff from Milwaukee is set for 7:00 p.m., with streaming video and live stats available at TIUTrojans.com.
