Cemail scores twice as Trojans win fourth straight

DEERFIELD, Ill. -- Looking dominant from the first whistle, Trinity International men's soccer piled in five goals on Wednesday afternoon, en route to their fourth straight win, in a 5-0 shutout victory over the Moody Bible (Ill.) Archers at Schartner Field. Four different Trojans scored in the win, as sophomore Zach Cemail put away two goals on the day.

Box Score | Season Stats

The Trojans (4-1) out-shot their opponents for the third time in the last four matches, firing 23 times with 13 shots on goal. Moody (0-5) managed five shots on goal but were never able to hold possession for too long, and were held without a corner kick opportunity throughout the match.

Jordan Dejno put Trinity on the board in the 17th minute, picking off a pass between members of the Archers' back line and finding the back of the net. The freshman was briefly tied for the team lead in goals scored with his third of the season, but five minutes later junior Zach Reget put the Trojans ahead 2-0 with his fourth score this year, with Cemail earning an assist on the play.

Trinity went up by a 3-0 margin just before the end of the first half, when a pair of Trojans broke free in front of the face of the goal. Sophomore Francesco De Felice fired a shot that was saved by the Moody goalkeeper, but Sean Tlapek was there to pick up the rebound and put away his first goal of the year.

Cemail found the first of his two goals after being taken down inside the penalty area and converting the kick for a 4-0 lead in the 50th minute. The sophomore then scored again in the 59th, for his third goal of the year, and his first in the run of play.

Redshirt freshman Jared Yonke made five saves and improves his record to 4-0 with the win, recording his CCAC-leading third shutout of the season.

Finishing with five points on the night, Cemail becomes the second Trojan in as many matches to reach that total, after Reget's hat trick last week against Lakeland (Wisc.). As a team, Trinity's offense has responded after a season-opening shutout loss; in their last four games, TIU has averaged an even five goals per match. For comparison, before this year Trinity has scored five or more goals in a match only five times in the last eight seasons.

The team's current four-match undefeated streak is the program's longest since 2007, when TIU won four straight from Oct. 10-20.

The Trojans hope to keep their high-powered winning ways this weekend, when they open CCAC play by visiting Robert Morris. Kickoff against the Eagles from Arlington Heights is set for Saturday, September 19, at 8:00 p.m.
