Women's Soccer earns dominant win over Spartans

DEERFIELD, Ill. - Despite allowing a goal at the start of the second half, the Trinity International Trojans were in control all afternoon, earning a 2-1 win over Missouri Baptist at Schartner Field on Saturday afternoon.

Box Score | Season Stats

The Trojans (3-3-1) held MBU to just two shots all afternoon, including just one shot on goal, and kept the Spartans (2-5) from taking a single corner kick all day. TIU held possession throughout large portions of the match, taking a total of 22 shots in the win.

In the 30th minute, Trinity struck first as Gina Collesano put away her first career goal to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead. Just four minutes later, senior Morgan Elzinga found the back of the net for her team-leading third goal of the year.

Trinity's defense kept Missouri Baptist from taking a shot throughout the first half, but coming out of the break, the Spartans responded with a goal from Alyssa Matz, cutting the deficit in half. The Trojans continued to lock out the Spartans, as an attempt that was off-target in the 80th minute was the only other attack seen from the visitors.

The Trojans have now won two straight after starting the season with a 1-3-1 mark; Trinity will resume CCAC play next week, beginning with a visit to Purdue-Calumet on Tuesday, September 29. Kickoff from Hammond, Ind. is set for 3:30 p.m.
