HAMMOND, Ind. - Trinity International women's soccer scored early and often Tuesday afternoon, leading to a 5-0 road victory over the Purdue-Calumet Peregrines at Dowling Park. The Trojans took the lead less than five minutes into the match en route to the team's third straight win and second shutout of the year.

Nicole Post collected a teammates' deflected shot and put the ball past the keeper for the early lead. The TIU defense pressured the Peregrines (1-8-1, 0-3 CCAC) and allowed just two shots, both saved by
McKenzie Chappell, before the Trojans struck again.
Gina Collesano found the crossing pass from
Kathryn Baccash, and fired from within the middle of a crowd in front of the box for the score.
TIU held a 2-0 halftime lead after out-shooting their opponents 6-3. In the second half, the defense tightened further, allowing just a single shot to Purdue-Calumet over the final 45 minutes.
Forward
Samantha Yasatan helped to put the game out of reach in the second half, scoring her second and third goals of the season. Yasatan took
Morgan Elzinga's pass in the 67th minute for the score, giving Trinity a 3-0 edge. Elzinga then picked up a goal just three minutes later, on a shot from outside the box to take a four-goal advantage. Yasatan then finished the afternoon's scoring with a 78th minute goal, as Collesano was credited with the assist on a through ball to the senior.
Chappel earns her third win this season after making three saves on the day, and recorded her first career clean sheet in the win.
The Trojans now return home for a two-match homestand, beginning with Homecoming Saturday. Trinity will host St. Francis on Saturday, October 3 at 11:00 a.m., kicking off a Homecoming triple-header with TIU football and men's soccer to follow.
