Women's Basketball falls to #5 Saints

JOLIET, Ill. – Three Trojans finished in double figures, but a hot-shooting St. Francis squad knocked down 11 three-pointers to pull away from Trinity International, as TIU fell to the 5th-ranked Saints, 87-63 on Saturday night.

Box Score | Season Stats

JaToya Woods led TIU with 23 points, reaching the 20-point mark for the seventh time this season, with a 15-for-18 performance from the free throw line. Sarina Falvo recorded 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field, and 7-of-8 shooting from the charity stripe. Rayelle Ross collected 13 points, just one bucket shy of her career high as a Trojan.

The Saints jumped out early, scoring the game's first ten points before Trinity rallied back. The Trojans (7-12, 3-9 CCAC) closed the period on an 8-2 run to close the margin to 18-14 at the end of the first.
A big second quarter for the Saints extended their lead, as the home team started out on a 14-4 run to open the period, making it a 32-18 advantage for USF with 5:25 remaining in the period. Trinity were outscored 25-12 in the period overall, and went into the half trailing 43-26.

Another run to open the second half for the Saints stretched their advantage to 55-26 with 6:24 remaining in the third period. Trinity would put up 12 points over the final 3:34 of the quarter, but a pair of three-pointers from USF would keep the Trojans from chipping away by a larger margin. TIU would start the fourth quarter down 67-45, as the Saints would pull away over the final ten minutes.

Trinity have one more road trip before returning to Van Dixhorn Arena next Saturday, when they travel to face No. 2 St. Xavier, the fourth nationally-ranked opponent over a six-game stretch for TIU. Tipoff against the Cougars is set for Wednesday, January 27 at 5:30 p.m.
