BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - Trinity International opened play in the first of two CCAC Crossover tournaments on Friday afternoon, but started the weekend with a pair of straight-set losses to South Division opponents, falling to the host Olivet Nazarene Tigers 25-22, 25-14, 25-14, and the Indiana-South Bend Titans 25-18, 25-15, 27-25.

Freshman hitter
Ashlyn Spay led the attack in the first match, with a team-high six kills. The Trojans (7-18, 1-7 CCAC) kept the score close in the opening set with the conference co-leaders, tying the score early at 4-4 with an ace from
Alida Knudtson, but were unable to claim a lead. A 4-1 run late in the set closed the gap to 23-21, with a kill from
Lexie Voss and a block from Knudtson and
Gabby Miller, but Olivet (13-10, 7-1 CCAC) closed the door with a pair of kills.
Junior libero
Becca Kowalczuk led the team with 22 digs, a season-high for a three-set match.
In the second match of the day, Voss and
Mickayla Staal paced the Trinity attack with seven kills apiece, but TIU were unable to take control of the first two sets. Tied at 8-8 in game three as Trinity looked to stay alive, Indiana-South Bend (10-12, 4-5 CCAC) used a 6-0 run to stretch their advantage to 14-8. Trailing 23-17, the Trojans scored seven straight to move in front, 24-23, with two kills and four IUSB errors. The Titans tied the set with a kill on the next point, but Trinity held game point at 25-24 with a hitting error. South Bend then scored the final three points to close out the match, including a pair of kills for the 27-25 win.
Spay finished with a team-high 14 digs against the Titans, her fourth double-figure performance in a three-set match this year.
The Trojans wrap up the first CCAC Crossover tomorrow, when they take on conference newcomers Governors State beginning at 10:00 a.m.
