BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - J.J. Burmeister passed for a season-high 225 yards, but the host Olivet Nazarene Tigers used 17 unanswered points in the second half to defeat Trinity International 27-24 on Saturday night.

Olivet Nazarene would open the game with a touchdown on their opening drive, but the Trojans answered with their first scoring drive early in the second quarter. Freshman
D.J. Thomas-Hood grabbed his first career interception, setting the Trojan offense up inside the Tiger red zone. Three plays later, Burmeister found
Cory Windle for a seven-yard touchdown catch with 13:12 remaining in the second quarter.
Forcing a punt on the next ONU drive, Trinity took their first lead of the night with Windle's second touchdown catch of the game, from 25 yards out to put the Trojans ahead 13-7. Both teams traded field goals before the end of the first half, including
Jeremiah Carter's 48-yard field goal, just one yard shy of his career best.
The Trojan offense struggled in the third quarter, collecting just two first downs in the period as Olivet Nazarene reclaimed the lead. On a third-and-five during their first drive of the second half, ONU connected on a 40-yard touchdown pass to claim a one-point edge, 17-16.
ONU extended their lead later in the quarter, with a six-play drive that resulted in a 22-yard touchdown pass on 4th-and-3 from just outside the red zone, giving the Tigers an eight-point lead, 24-16.
Burmeister tossed his third TD of the game with 6:40 left in the 4th quarter, the third career game for Burmeister with three or more TD passes, when he found
Brad Hargis for a 64-yard score. After the Tigers' next drive was ended with a fumble recovered by
Jarell Carter, the Trojans had a chance to tie the game or take the lead in the closing minutes, but were unable to convert the 4th down with :48 seconds left on the clock.
Hargis brought in nine catches to lead the Trojans, for 105 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown catch. Burmeister also finished as the team's leading rusher, collecting 67 yards on 13 carries. Defensively,
Riley Schussler recorded 14 tackles, while Schussler and
Mike Sawyer each finished with a sack.
Trinity finishes it's current five-game road trip next Saturday, when they travel to Arlington Heights and take on the Robert Morris Eagles. Kickoff at Morris Field on Saturday, October 15 is set for 1:00 p.m.
