HAMMOND, Ind. - A balanced attack saw five different players finish with six or more points, but a slow start doomed Trinity International, who fell behind early in a 73-46 loss at No. 15 Purdue-Northwest on Saturday afternoon.
Box Score | Season Stats
Arielle Miree and
Basha Ramsey - playing in her first game this season after recovering from injury - finished with a team-high 10 points for the Trojans (2-7, 0-5 CCAC), but a total of 19 turnovers commited by the team never allowed the offense to get into a rhythm.
Rayelle Ross' steal and fast-break layup early in the first period would tie the game at 2-2, but the Pride (9-3, 5-0 CCAC) responded with five quick points as part of a 19-10 lead they would take at the end of the first period.
A run of 12 straight points for Purdue-Northwest, covering nearly five minutes of the second period would help give the Pride a 41-18 lead at the break. Trinity would be out-rebounded by a 22-13 margin in the first half, with just one offensive board coming at the very end of the second period. Ramsey and
Tashyra Burrough would lead the Trojans with six rebounds apiece.
Purdue would continue to pull away in the second half, leading by as much as 31 points in the fourth quarter before finishing with the 27-point final margin.
The Trojans return to Van Dixhorn Arena this Wednesday night, when they host Lincoln Christian (Ill.). Tipoff against the Red Lions is set for 7:00 p.m.
