DEERFIELD, Ill. - JaToya Woods paced Trinity International with a game-high 19 points, but a stagnant third period proved to be the difference, as the visiting Judson Eagles took the win over the Trojans, 71-59 on Wednesday night.
Box Score | Season StatsThe Trojans (7-15, 3-12 CCAC) held a 28-27 halftime lead, but were outscored by the Eagles 25-6 in the third period, giving Judson (13-13, 5-10 CCAC) a lead they would hold the rest of the way.
Trinity started strong, with
Basha Ramsey opening the night with the first of her six points to start a quick 5-0 run for the Trojans. Judson would rally back as the lead would change six times over a four-and-a-half minute stretch, but Ramsey and
Rayelle Ross combined for the last six points of the period to give TIU an 18-13 first-quarter lead.
Woods would give her team their biggest lead of the night with a couple of free throws at the 9:21 mark in the second period, giving Trinity a 22-15 advantage. Judson would answer with eight straight points to reclaim the lead, but Trinity would go into the locker rooms ahead 28-27 thanks to an
Arielle Miree three-pointer with 1:00 on the clock.
With the Eagles moving in front to start the third quarter,
Marlou Peters' would score the last field goal of the period with 3:37 remaining. Judson finished on a 15-0 run to close out the third, claiming a 52-34 advantage.
Trinity would go on to outscore Judson 25-19 in the fourth quarter, including the games' final nine points, but ran out of time before making the comeback.
Ross finished with 13 points on the night, while
Nika Bracun pulled down a team-high seven rebounds for TIU.
The Trojans are back in action on Saturday afternoon, when they travel to face Roosevelt. Tipoff against the Lakers is set for 1:00 p.m.
