Trojans' comeback run falls short at Roosevelt

CHICAGO, Ill. – Four players finished in double figures for Trinity International, as the Trojans fourth-quarter rally came up just short in a road loss to the Roosevelt Lakers, 70-63 on Saturday afternoon.

Box Score | Season Stats

Trailing the host Lakers by 12 points midway through the third period, the Trojans (7-16, 3-13 CCAC) pulled to within a single point with less than four minutes to play on a three-pointer from Sarina Falvo. Roosevelt (15-12, 7-9 CCAC) outscored Trinity 10-4 the rest of the way to deny the Trojans' comeback.

Marlou Peters led the TIU attack, recording 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting off the bench. Falvo collected 13 points in 38 minutes of work, while JaToya Woods and Nika Bracun tallied 11 and 10 points, respectively. Bracun earned her second double-double of the season, pulling down 12 rebounds.

After Roosevelt opened the game with back-to-back threes to take an early lead, Trinity would move in front at the 7:04 mark of the second period, when Falvo would cap an 8-2 TIU run to put the Trojans ahead 15-14. Bracun gave the visitors their biggest lead of the day with one of her two three-pointers, 25-20 with 3:49 to play in the first half. A late jumper from RU's Jasmine Kyler put the Lakers ahead at the half however, 29-27.

Peters tied the game at 29-29 to open the third period, but Roosevelt would answer with 12 straight points to take their biggest lead of the day. The Trojans opened the fourth quarter with eight straight points to get back into the game, before Falvo's three made it a one-point game. The Trojans would record just one more field goal the rest of the way as Roosevelt claimed the win.

Trinity returns to Van Dixhorn Arena on Wednesday night, when they host the St. Ambrose Bees. Tipoff on February 10 is set for 5:30 p.m.
