Softball closes Florida swing with loss to #19 Knights, Trailblazers

LEESBURG, Fla. – Trinity International wrapped up their appearance at The Spring Games on Thursday, falling in a pair of rematches, 7-1 to No. 19 Marian (Ind.), and 5-1 to Ohio Christian.

Box Scores: #19 Marian (Ind.) | Ohio Christian | Season Stats

The Trojans (2-8) were within striking distance of both opponents, but a run of untimely errors in both games kept TIU from securing their third win of the season. A combined nine fielding errors led to seven unearned runs between both contests.

In the first game of the day, Trinity responded to Marian's two-run opening frame, grabbing one run back in the bottom of the 1st. Emily Doomis led the inning off by reaching base as a hit batter, then moved to third on a pair of groundouts. Victoria Livingston drove Doomis home with a two-out single to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Marian collected just three hits over the next four innings, but Trinity were also unable to string together a rally and tie the game. In the top of the 6th, three straight fielding errors allowed the Knights to score twice, stretching their lead to 4-1. Marian then closed the door with a three-run home run in the top of the 7th to pull away, 7-1.

Game two saw the Trojans with another narrow deficit, after the Trailblazers (2-10) took advantage of a 1st inning error to go ahead 1-0 early. Ohio Christian tacked on another run in the bottom of the 3rd, before Trinity got on the board in the 4th. Two leadoff walks from Beanna Hansen and Taylor Carli, followed by a single from Doomis loaded the bases with one out. Allison Naujokas then picked up her team-leading 10th hit-by-pitch on the year, pushing across a run. OCU worked out of trouble, allowing just the one run to score and keeping a 2-1 advantage.

After another run extended their lead in the bottom of the 5th, Ohio Christian scored a pair of unearned runs in the 6th, stretching the lead to 5-1.

Jamie Stanton led the Trojans at the plate, collecting four hits on the day with a 2-for-3 performance in both contests.

The Trojans will now return to Deerfield and prepare for this season's home opener, scheduled for Saturday, March 19, against Blackburn (Ill.) First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. from the TIU Softball Field.
