LEESBURG, Fla. – Trinity International softball hit the ground running on the 2016 season, scoring six runs in their first two innings of the year and going on to take an 8-3 victory over Ohio Christian in the first day of The Spring Games.

Overall, the Trojans (1-1) split the first day of competition, falling in the second game of the day to Lourdes (Ohio), 4-1. Sophomore center fielder Emily Doomis had the best day at the plate for TIU, going a combined 3-for-7 over both games with a double and a run scored.

In game one, Trinity jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first, using four hits and three walks to fuel the rally. Tori Livingston and Allison Naujokas each picked up RBI singles to put TIU on the board, then a pair of bases-loaded walks from Valerie D'Ambrosio and Courtney Emricson brought in two more runs.

Jamie Stanton extended the lead in the 2nd, hitting a two-out, two-RBI single up the middle to drive home Livingston and Taylor Carli. Stanton led the Trojans with three RBI on the day, with another run driven in in the bottom of the 4th.

Freshman pitcher Taylor Carli made her Trojan debut, throwing a complete game with just two earned runs while striking out five. Carli also went 2-for-3 at the plate, with a walk and a run scored.

Trinity's offense quieted in game two, as Lourdes (6-6) kept the Trojans off the base-paths until Emricson's 3rd-inning single, which was swallowed up in an inning-ending double play in the next at-bat.

Courtney Emricson looked strong in the circle, pitching four innings with just one earned run allowed. Lourdes was kept off the scoreboard until a pair of two-out base hits drove in a pair of runs to give the Grey Wolves a 2-0 lead. Lourdes tacked on another run on a groundout in the bottom of the 5th, extending their lead to 3-0. Two fielding errors in the top of the 6th allowed TIU to get on the board, as Breanna Hansen came around to make it a 3-1 score.

The Trojans are back in action on Monday, when they take on Cornerstone (Mich.) beginning at 8:00 a.m. CT. TIU then faces Viterbo (Wisc.) at noon CT, with links to live video available at TIUTrojans.com.
