Two-homer day for Livingston as Trojans split in Florida

LEESBURG, Fla. – Victoria Livingston hit two home runs to fuel the Trinity International offense, as the Trojans earned a split on day three of The Spring Games, falling 4-2 to 19th-ranked Marian (Ind.) before rebounding to take an 8-3 victory over Ohio Christian on Tuesday.

Box Scores: Marian (Ind.) | Ohio Christian | Season Stats

Livingston put the Trojans (2-4) on the board early in both contests, as the senior hit her first homer of the season in the 3rd inning against the Knights (2-1) to put TIU in front 2-1. Later, her 2nd inning blast against the Trailblazers (0-7) started a five-run rally that proved to be enough for the Trojans to earn their second victory of the early season.

Freshman pitcher Taylor Carli pitched all 13 innings on the day, allowing three earned runs in both games while striking out a season-high five batters against Ohio Christian.

Trinity looked poised for the upset, leading 2-1 over Marian going into the 5th inning. The Knights loaded the bases and tied the game 2-2 on a ground out, before the Trojans worked out of the jam. In the 6th, a leadoff home run put Marian back in front, before another run came across on a TIU fielding error to give MU the 4-2 advantage. A leadoff single from Breanna Hansen would bring the tying run to the plate, but Marian would retire the next three batters to secure the win.

In game two, Ohio Christian edged out to an early 1-0 lead after a leadoff single and Trojan error. Trinity came back in the bottom of the second, starting with Livingston's solo shot. The Trojans batted around in the frame, using six hits to score five runs and take a commanding 5-1 lead, with RBIs coming from Hansen, Valerie D'Ambrosio, and Alyssa Doomis.

The Trojans nearly ended the game early on the run rule, scoring three runs in the bottom of the 5th to increase their lead to 8-1, but stranded game-clinching run on third in both 5th and 6th innings.
Livingston finished the day with a team-high three RBI between both games, while Doomis and Stanton each recorded two RBI in the win over OCU.

The Trojans continue their Florida trip tomorrow morning, when they take on Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) at 8:00 a.m. CST, followed by a matchup with No. 22 Bellevue (Neb.) scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. CST.
