LEESBURG, Fla. – Just one day after cranking out a combined 15 base hits, Trinity International struggled at the plate, falling in both games during day four of The Spring Games on Wednesday, 6-2 to Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.), and 6-1 to No. 22 Bellevue (Neb.).
Box Scores: Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) | #22 Bellevue (Neb.) | Season StatsBreanna Hansen and
Valerie D'Ambrosio each went 2-for-3 in the first game of the day, but the Trojans (2-6) collected just five hits as a team against Hannibal-LaGrange (8-3). HLGU scored in the 2nd and 4th innings, then tacked on four more runs in the 5th to claim a 6-0 advantage.
Trinity rallied to get on the board in the 6th, when three of the first four batters reached base, allowing
Jamie Stanton to score on D'Ambrosio's one-out single. Later in the frame, Hansen scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 6-2. Hannibal worked out of trouble before any more damage was done, and the Trojans were retired in order in the 7th to close out the game.
A three-run 1st inning for Bellevue (5-7) in the second game of the day put Trinity behind early. Freshman pitcher
Taylor Carli settled in, giving up just two hits over the next four frames, and the Trojans got on the board in the 4th, on
Allison Naujokas' RBI single that drove in
Alyssa Doomis. The Bruins extended their lead in the bottom of the 6th however, adding three runs on three hits to pull away.
Carli pitched all 13 innings for the second day in a row, striking out a combined eight batters, her highest total over a two-game stretch.
Trinity wraps up their time at The Spring Games tomorrow morning, with a pair of rematches. The Trojans face off against No. 19 Marian (Ind.), who defeated TIU on Tuesday, starting at 10:00 a.m. CST. TIU then will take on Ohio Christian for the third time after taking wins over the Trailblazers on Saturday and Tuesday. The Florida finale is slated for a noon CST start.
