DEERFIELD, Ill. – A pair of games against CCAC rival Robert Morris resulted in a pair of walk-off victories for the Trinity International Trojans on Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader over the Eagles in dramatic fashion, 5-4 in game one, and a 12-9 extra-inning win in game two.

Trinity (21-21-1, 9-14-1 CCAC) overcame a two-run deficit in the first game, scoring in the 4th and 5th innings to pull even, 4-4. After Jon Grotelueschen's leadoff walk to start the bottom of the 7th,
Jon Debowey and
Joel Stephenson eached got on to load the bases. With two outs, freshman first baseman
Michael Balistreri ended the game on a fielder's choice, as the RMU defense was unable to record the force at second base. Grotelueschen came home to score as Stephenson beat out the play at second to give the Trojans the 5-4 win.
After the Trojans put up a 7-0 early lead on Robert Morris (22-19, 13-12 CCAC), the Eagles chipped away at the deficit, eventually claiming a 9-8 lead in the top of the 7
th.
Justin VanderNaald tied the game with his second home run of the season in the bottom half of the inning, before each side put up zeros in the 8th and 9th.
Zach Haning worked around a pair of walks in the top of the 10th, before
A.J. Bruner ended the game with a three-run shot to left on the first pitch of the at-bat, earning the sweep with a 12-9 final score.
Four home runs were hit by Trojan bats on the day, including two long balls from Debowey in game one. The senior right fielder hit his 9th and 10th home runs of the season, becoming the first Trinity player to record double-digit home runs since 2010 (Kevin Tenney). Debowey finished the day a combined 4-for-7, including four walks, three of which were intentional after the two home runs.
Along with his walk-off winner, Bruner also pitched his ninth victory of the season, throwing a seven-inning complete game with six strikeouts and four earned runs. Haning earned the win in game two, his second of the year, after
Drake Maltry threw three and a third shutout innings out of the pen.
The Trojans kick off the final week of the regular season on Tuesday, when they pay a visit to the Purdue-North Central Panthers for the final time. First pitch of the doubleheader from Hicks Field in Laporte, Ind. is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
