Doomis gave the Trojans (9-25, 3-17 CCAC) an early lead in the second game of the day, homering in the first at-bat to open play. Trinity looked poised to put a crooked number on the board after
Alyssa Doomis hit a double down the right field line, before
Allison Naujokas and
Tori Livingston loaded the bases, but were unable to cash in.
St. Xavier (33-4-1, 16-1-1) responded with a four-run bottom of the 1st to move in front, but were shut out through the middle innings as freshman pitched shutout 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings.
Emily Doomis scored the team's second run in the top of the 5th, reaching base after being hit by a pitch, then scoring two batters later on
Jamie Stanton's RBI single to make it a 4-2 St. Xavier lead.
The home team pulled away over the next two frames however, scoring three times in the 5th and 6th to take the win by run rule.
The Trojans return home next week, with a pair of CCAC doubleheaders to close out the regular season. Trinity will host Robert Morris on Tuesday, April 26, then face St. Ambrose on Wednesday, April 27. First pitch for both doubleheaders is set for 3:00 p.m.
