ROSEMONT, Ill. – It took a few extra frames to get there, but Trinity International secured its' second conference victory on Thursday night, splitting a doubleheader with the Roosevelt Lakers. The Trojans took a 5-4 victory in nine innings during the opener, before falling in game two, 9-0.
Box Scores: Game 1 | Game 2 | Season StatsThe Trojans (6-16, 2-8 CCAC) scored five runs on just six hits in the first game, taking advantage of four Roosevelt errors throughout the game. Trinity struck first in the top of the second, when Tori Livingston hit a triple to left, driving in
Allison Naujokas, who led the inning off with a walk. Livingston then scored on the next play, on
Valerie D'Ambrosio's sacrifice fly to put the Trojans in front 2-0.
A sacrifice fly for the Lakers (7-21, 3-5 CCAC) cut the lead in half, before TIU tacked on another run in the top of the 4th. Following a two-out walk from
Justine Wigboldy, the junior outfielder scored all the way from first on a throwing error to put Trinity ahead 3-1.
The Trojans again scored on an error in the top of the 7th, adding another insurance run and going in front by a 4-1 margin, but the Lakers rallied in their last chance at the plate. Roosevelt belted four extra-base hits to score three times, tying the game at 4-4 and sending the game to extra innings.
In the top of the 9th, TIU loaded the bases thanks to a pair of hit batters, in
Emily Doomis and Naujokas, and with two outs Livingston delivered again, singling through the left side to drive in the game-winning run. The Lakers looked ready to complete the comeback, putting two runners in scoring position, but
Taylor Carli closed out the threat to secure her fifth win of the year.
In the second game of the night, Roosevelt put up two big innings to win in a run-rule shortened game, 9-0. The Lakers put up five runs on five hits in the bottom of the second, then added four more with a grand slam in the 4th.
Catcher
Alyssa Doomis put up Trinity's best performance at the plate, collecting four hits over both games and going 3-for-4 in game one. Livingston finished 2-for-5 in the win, driving in two RBI while scoring once.
The Trojans wrap up the current road trip this Saturday, April 9, when they travel to Trinity Christian for a CCAC doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
