Box Score SOUTH BEND, Ind. - A career night from Junior O'Shae Williams sent the Trojans to their fifth consecutive win as TIU defeated IUSB 99-94 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.
From the opening tip on Saturday the Trojans and Titans would find themselves in fight to the finish. Both sides struggled shooting in the opening half, with neither team shooting over 50% from the field. With the score tied 40-40 after 20 minutes of play the second half was set to be a thriller.
The second half picked right off where the first ended, with neither side grabbing more than a three point lead. With 2:00 left on the clock in regulation the Trojans saw themselves in a four point deficit and in need of a basket.
Williams answered the call and connected on jumper after getting fouled. The Junior then added the free throw to make it a one point game. After a made free throw from IUSB,
Greg Carlyle tied the game at 85 with just under a minute left. Despite a minute remaining on the clock either team was able to take the lead before the end of regulation.
The Titans grabbed a quick basket to open the extra frame but after that it was all Trojans. Baskets from
Jeremy Carlyle,
Thadeous Johnson, and Williams sealed the victory for the Trojans in overtime.
Williams finished with a career best 40 points while adding 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Tyrone Carey put forth another strong effort for TIU, adding 21 points of his own.
"O'Shae was fantastic today.
Sam Schroeder and Ty made some huge plays and we turned it up mentally in the last five minutes of regulation and OT, which is what our guys pride themselves on," said Head Coach
Boomer Roberts.
"We have a big game on Tuesday night against a really good St. Xavier teams, so we will try to learn from this and continue to get better."
Trojans return home Tuesday as they take on St. Xavier inside the Van Dixhorn Arena at 7 pm.
