DEERFIELD, Ill. -
Jeremy Carlyle dropped an impressive 40 points as he led the TIU Men's Basketball team in a 105-79 defeat over the Judson University Eagles on Wednesday evening. Carlyle's 11 three pointers made on Wednesday is a new school record at TIU.
The game started off with high energy as TIU promptly took the lead with the Van Dixhorn arena packed with cheering fans. Five minutes in, Judson made a three-pointer to regain the lead only for it to quickly taken back with a well-shot jumper from Nate Schmidt.
This set the momentum for the game, as the Eagles never regained the lead from that point on. Ten minutes into the half, Judson looked as if they may come back, but O'Shae Williams quickly denied the opportunity by driving through the paint to earn a layup.
Strong defense kept Judson down as TIU ran away with the lead. The half ended with Carlyle draining two three-pointers and dishing out an assist for Donald Watkins, Jr. to score off of.
TIU held a 56-40 lead to begin the second half, but the Eagles started the half with fire and earned a few buckets. Schmidt ended the Eagle run yet again with a good field goal, and Williams added another three-pointer soon after.
The lead grew with back-to-back threes from Schmidt and Carlyle, and the team completely shut Judson down at this point on both sides of the court. Instead of going easy when ahead, TIU stepped up in shooting as well as on the defensive side of the ball.
The TIU defense was consistently strong throughout the game, as they added 16 steals and forced 21 turnovers.
"When we share the ball like that, we can be very difficult to guard," said Head Coach Boomer Roberts. "Jeremy, like several other guys have at certain points this season, showed just how good he is offensively. I love his aggressive drives to the rack, and any time you break a school record its a special night. He's special, and I'm glad he's on our team."
"Lastly, I thought our bench gave us great minutes and edge, which helped us keep our pressure consistent the whole night," added Roberts.
The Trojans look to earn another impressive win on Saturday, December 2, when they face University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
