#13 Trojans bounce back with road win over RMU

Box Score ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - After suffering two consecutive CCAC losses the TIU Men's Basketball team bounced back with a much needed victory, defeating CCAC rival Robert Morris University 99-85 on Tuesday evening.

"I'm proud of the last couple days we've had together as a family," said Head Coach Boomer Roberts. "We've been working really hard on the defensive end and trusting each other every day in practice and its starting ti become a constant for our guys."

The Eagles came out of the gates quickly to open the game as RMU jumped out to a 11-6 lead inside of the first 3 minutes. After back to back baskets from RMU the Trojan offense came alive as TIU would go on a 17-4 run that was highlighted by two three pointers from Thadeous Johnson to take a 30-23 lead midway through the half. Both teams continued firing offensively as the Trojans would take a one point advantage into the locker room at the break.

The second half saw the Trojan defense really come alive as TIU would hold the Eagles to just 41 points in the final 20 minutes. On the offensive side the second half was once again highlighted by the play of O'Shae Williams as the Junior racked up 26 points in the final frame. Williams was a catalyst all evening for TIU as he would finish with yet another double-double, totaling 29 points and 10 boards on the evening.

The strong offensive play from Williams, along with Johnson and Rick Wright led the Trojans to a 54 point second half. The offensive outburst combined with a strong defensive half propelled the Trojans to their 11th win of the year and their 5th conference win of 2017.

"Our bigs, lead by T.J. and Rick were aggressive in the paint, and our guards made enough plays against a pressuring and athletic opponent. RMU is much better than their record, and they just got some guys eligible so this was a big road win for our family before a much needed break," added Roberts. "We'll take advantage of that time improve in a few areas, because we still have a lot of room for improvement."

The Trojans will have a few weeks off before they hit the road for their final game of 2017 as they take on NAIA #3 Indiana-East University on December 30th at 2 pm.
