Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. - In their first game since the Christmas break the TIU Men's Basketball found themselves in a battle with one of the top teams in the country, as the Trojans suffered a 97-70 loss to #3 IU-East on Saturday afternoon.
"IU-East is very good, and we did not play very well," said Head Coach
Boomer Roberts. "The score looks bad but we actually competed and scrapped, despite the size difference on the floor."
Tyrone Carey led the way for the Trojans as the Junior finished with a game high 27 points to lead all scorers.
Greg Carlyle and
Jeremy Carlyle finished with 15 and 16 points each to round out the top scorers for TIU.
The Trojans struggled shooting the ball all afternoon as TIU shot just 33% from the field, while connecting on just 7 three pointers in their 32 attempts.
The Red Wolves controlled the pace of the game from the opening tip, jumping out to as much as an 18 point lead in the opening 20 minutes. In the second frame IU-East continued their success offensively while TIU struggled finding the bottom of the basket. The Red Wolves would drain 17 three pointers en route to a 97-70 victory.
"Tye, Jeremy, and Greg were in attack mode all game, but we didn't hit many of our open looks," added Roberts. "This is a bit of a new look for us roster wise, but I'm confident we'll learn and keep grinding to get better as we move forward."
The Trojans are back in action as they take on East-West University on Tuesday January 2nd at 6 PM.
