Box Score DEERFIELD, Ill. - The TIU Men's Basketball team suffered their first conference loss of the season on Saturday, dropping a home matchup with Holy Cross College 94-84.
Three players would finished in double figures, with O'Shae Williams leading the way after tallying 24 points.
Greg Carlyle would add 20 of his own but the strong play from the the Junior duo would not be enough for the Trojans to pull out the victory.
"Credit Coach McBride and the entire Holy Cross team. The were great, made big plays and completely deserved to win the game," said Head Coach
Boomer Roberts.
The opening half saw back and forth action between the two teams, with neither side able to grab a hold on the game. The Trojans would hold as much as a 9 points lead midway through the half after back to back three pointers from
Jeremy Carlyle and
Thadeous Johnson. The Saints cut into the Trojan lead throughout the remainder of the half, but the Trojans would go into halftime break leading 42-40.
Coming out of the locker room with a two point lead the Trojans struggled shooting the ball in the second half, making just 37.5% of their shots from the field. The Saints on the other end found more success shooting, racking up 7 three points and shooting over 60% from the field. The strong second half performance from HCC handed the Trojans their first CCAC loss of the season.
"We've had this coming for a while, because we've played so poorly on the defensive end," added Roberts. "If we don't learn and start taking this seriously, we're going to be a very average team moving forward."
The Trojans look to bounce back next Saturday when they host the ONU Tigers inside the Van Dixhorn Arena at 3:00 PM.
