#13 Trojans win share of CCAC title at Robert Morris

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - No. 13 Trinity International claimed a share of their first-ever Chicagoland Collegaiate Athletic Conference title, with a road victory in the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Game of the Week over No. 8 Robert Morris, 93-81.

Box Score | Season Stats

Senior forward Grant Corsi led the Trojans (26-4, 18-2 CCAC) with 25 points, while teammate Zach Kirschbaum picked up his NAIA-leading 22nd double-double of the year with 11 points and a career-best 18 rebounds.

"What this team has accomplished is remarkable, but we're not done yet," said TIU head coach Boomer Roberts after the game. "To go from worst in the CCAC to first in three years shows God's faithfulness, and our guys' dedication and love. This is a special group. Even on the road, our fans were amazing. That just shows how the University has rallied around out guys."

Trinity nearly lead wire-to-wire, leading 13-5 following two Corsi buckets at the 15:14 mark of the first half. The Trojans' lead would grow throughout most of the first half, as back-to-back three-pointers from Greg and Jeremy Carlyle gave TIU their largest lead of the day, 42-16 with 4:35 before the halftime break.

Robert Morris would close the gap to 18 at the half, 48-30. Corsi and Kirschbaum paced the Trojans with nine points apiece in the first half.

RMU's Kyle Ward hit a layup with 15:40 remaining, trimming Trinity's advantage to 54-44. The Trojans responded, as Corsi started a run of 12 straight points to secure the win.

"Today, the fellas were locked in, which you have to be to beat Robert Morris anywhere, much less at home," added Roberts. "RMU and Coach [Al] Bruehl are the real deal, but we made more plays today. Grant was ridiculous, and showed the fire we need from him. Zach controlled the paint against two good bigs, and Luke, Jeremy, Greg, and Sean were fearless, which is when they're at their best. I also thought Henry did a fantastic job on [RMU's Antonio] Levy, who is probably the toughest cover in our league."

With the victory, TIU Men's Basketball wins a share of their first CCAC regular season title since joining the conference in 1997-98. Robert Morris will take the No. 1 seed in the CCAC Tournament on a point-differential tiebreaker, and therefore secures the CCAC North Division's automatic bid to the NAIA Tournament. "We're very thankful and are going to soak up this moment," said Roberts. "But we also realize there is so much more to play for."

The Trojans take the No. 2 seed in the CCAC Tournament, and will host the yet-to-be-determined 7th seed on Tuesday night, February 21.
